Community Compensation Project: Empowering Through Engagement

Role & Impact

As the driving force behind the King County Compensation Policy project's communications and community engagement strategy, I created an equitable compensation plan for community members participating in various advisory committees, task forces, and boards. My contributions went beyond the initial consultant's proposal, enhancing community outreach and improving the project's overall effectiveness.

Deliverables

  • Devised and executed a robust community engagement strategy that drew an average of 25 attendees per session, stirring the interest of over 200 community members.

  • Crafted visually compelling materials that succinctly communicated the project's objectives, timelines, and expected outcomes.

  • Pioneered an online engagement platform, yielding 60+ responses, extending the project's reach and ensuring a broader spectrum of community input.

  • Seamlessly managed project communications, informing and engaging all relevant parties.

Communications

The cornerstone of this project's success was a comprehensive and engaging communication strategy. A blend of virtual meetings for personal interactions and an online platform for broader reach ensured diverse community insights. We also hosted staff engagements and met with staff from King County Council. Visual communications played a pivotal role, simplifying complex information and making it appealing to a broader audience.

Reflection

This project was a powerful testament to the value of adaptive engagement strategies and visual communications. While the initial consultant's plan served as a foundation, augmenting it was crucial to success. The strong community response underscored the importance of inclusive communication strategies that amplify community voices and the role of well-crafted visuals in simplifying complex information.
