Role and Impact

As a core member of a dedicated team of three, I played a vital role in the research, development, and execution of King County’s Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) Strategic Plan Highlights report. By liaising with Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EIB) managers and staff, I effectively gathered and integrated diverse initiatives to create a comprehensive view of our equity efforts. This project helped inform people who will drive policy decisions, influence operations, and guide services toward an equitable future.

We leveraged digital technology to create an interactive platform, highlighting King County’s key ESJ initiatives and investments. This approach fostered engagement with community organizations, leaders, employees, and partners, setting the groundwork for our forthcoming ESJ Strategic Plan.

Deliverables

In this fast-paced project, I wore many hats:

• Conducting extensive research into King County’s ESJ initiatives.

• Developing and prototyping an interactive ARC GIS Storymap to showcase our work.

• Writing content for half of the report’s categories and guiding strategy for the remaining sections.

• Assisting in a video shoot featuring the King County Executive and Chief Equity Officer.

Communications

The ESJ Strategic Plan Highlights report was an essential communication tool, providing a broad overview of King County’s equity and social justice efforts. Our team turned the challenge of a tight deadline and the absence of quantitative data into an opportunity to innovate, shifting from a traditional report to a narrative-focused approach.

Reflection

This project offered a unique chance to shape the ESJ Strategic Plan in King County. We navigated multiple challenges by adopting a storytelling approach, a first in our office. This shift in approach unearthed impactful narratives from lesser-known projects and significantly enriched our equity work. The project’s outcomes continue to influence our direction to the forthcoming ESJ Strategic Plan, paving the way for enhanced stakeholder engagement and an ongoing commitment to equity and social justice.
