Affordable Housing Committee Annual Report 2019

Role and Impact

I recognized a critical communication gap in the Affordable Housing Committee and stepped in as a designer, copyeditor, and communications consultant. This allowed the AHC to convey its mission and impact more effectively to its stakeholders and the wider community. I delivered on their needs and went beyond the call of duty, transforming the initial idea of a four-page document into a compelling, six-page visual story.

Deliverables

  • Expanded the originally conceived four-page text document into a visually engaging six-page trifold, exceeding initial expectations.

  • Created a custom, digitally painted map of King County, emphasizing the regional impact and connection points of the AHC’s work.

  • Delivered the expanded design project beforehand, allowing for timely communication of AHC’s initiatives and achievements.

Communications

In addition to designing the report, I also managed its strategic dissemination:

  • Aligned the release date with Affordable Housing Week 2020 on HousingConsortium.org to maximize exposure.

  • Featured the report on Cultivating Connections, the DCHS blog, broadening its reach.

  • Shared the report with Committee members, stakeholders, and elected officials, ensuring direct communication of AHC’s efforts.

  • Promoted the report on King County’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, amplifying its visibility.

Reflection: “This project was not just about creating an engaging report but about going above and beyond to amplify the crucial work of the AHC. The transformation of the information into a compelling, visual narrative facilitated more robust engagement with key stakeholders and the wider community, thereby broadening the impact of the AHC’s initiatives.

By delivering beyond the initial expectations, I helped the AHC to tell a more robust story of its commitment to addressing the affordable housing crisis. This project underscored the importance of political will, creativity, and collaboration in tackling affordable housing challenges and reinforced my commitment to using strategic communication to advance social equity.”
