Visual/Web Design: King County Latinx Affinity Group

Role and Impact

As a visual communicator for the Latinx Affinity Group (KCLx), a vibrant Employee Resource Group at King County, I blended my graphic design creativity with my cultural insight to construct a unique visual narrative. My designs not only enhanced the group’s online presence but also celebrated the diverse cultural heritage of the Latinx community.

Deliverables

  • Website Development: I redesigned the group’s website, breaking from standard templates by learning to code custom graphics. The result was a visually vibrant and user-friendly website, reflecting the energy and inclusivity of KCLx.

  • Cultural Map: I curated hundreds of vector images reflecting the diverse facets of Latin American culture - from food and architecture to native artifacts and activities. These images were then arranged into the shape of King County, creating a visually stunning ‘cultural map’ that paid homage to the rich cultural tapestry of the Latinx community.

  • Generative Art for Dia de Los Muertos: I created a series of downloadable Zoom backgrounds in honor of the Dia de Los Muertos. These generative art pieces drew on traditional imagery associated with the holiday, providing a colorful and culturally respectful way for members to celebrate and remember.

Reflection: “Working on these projects for KCLx was not just about showcasing my design skills but also about honoring and celebrating the richness of Latinx culture. The cultural map was significant, as it allowed me to visually represent the shared heritage and diverse experiences of the Latinx community in King County. Creating the Dia de Los Muertos backgrounds was also a poignant experience, as it was a celebration of remembrance, an opportunity to generate art that holds deep cultural significance. Ultimately, these projects reinforced the power of visual communication in bridging cultural gaps and fostering community connection.”
