DCHS CONNECT: Interactive Employee News
Role and Impact
Serving as a designer, copyeditor, and communications consultant, I initiated the transition from a traditional employee newsletter and bi-weekly TV slideshow to DCHS CONNECT, a dynamic multimedia platform for staff news and messages. I significantly enhanced department-wide employee engagement by designing an easy-to-update interactive platform that offers online, mobile-friendly access and SharePoint integration.
Deliverables
Redesigned and revitalized the existing monthly employee newsletter, “Touching Base,” with engaging content and staff contributions, achieving an open rate of ~30%.
Implemented a bi-weekly newsreel, “DCHS TV,” for televisions across various locations, providing timely, concise information for staff.
Evolved the previous initiatives into “DCHS CONNECT,” a multimedia platform with features like in-app videos, PDF previews, animation, and surveys.
Notable Stats
Boosted staff viewership from ~30% to 45%
Tripled the frequency of staff returning to the platform
Encouraged increased content contributions from staff and leadership
Realized instantaneous online updates, eliminating the need for rendering and uploading multiple files
Communications
Coordinated with leadership to relay strategic messages to the staff via the platform
Regularly gathered and incorporated staff contributions, fostering a sense of ownership and engagement across the department.
Integrated the platform with SharePoint for easy access and convenience

Due to its nature as an internal communications tool, DCHS CONNECT is not available for public viewing. However, upon request, I would be happy to discuss further details and strategies involved in the project.
Reflection: “The evolution of “Touching Base” and “DCHS TV” to “DCHS CONNECT” has been a journey of continuous improvement in internal communications. The increased staff engagement metrics testify to the new platform’s success, demonstrating how interactive and easily accessible communication can enhance information sharing and cohesion within an organization. The project emphasizes the value of adaptability and innovation in communication strategies, particularly in a diverse and dynamic work environment like DCHS.”
