Amazon Donates to Kent Isolation and Quarantine Center

Role and Impact

In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Amazon donated over 250,000 items to support King County's quarantine, isolation, and recovery facilities. This generous donation required wide acknowledgment and coverage. To do this, I collaborated with the King County TV video crew to create a video highlighting the scale and significance of Amazon's contribution and providing information about our Kent COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine facility.

Deliverables

Working closely with the King County TV video, on-site staff, and employee volunteers, I:

  • Oversaw the video project from scriptwriting to directing the on-camera interview.

  • Assisted and coached the operations manager, who served as the primary speaker for the video, to effectively communicate the impact and importance of the donation.

  • Captured behind-the-scenes footage to document the process for archives and public galleries.

  • Developed an internal employee news piece with the team.

Communications

  • The video debuted on KCTV's YouTube channel, garnering over 20,000 views.

  • It was featured on KCTV's Facebook and King County's general social media platforms.

  • We shared the story on Cultivating Connections, the DCHS blog, and various King County internal news channels.

  • We also offered an exclusive behind-the-scenes look on Flickr.

Reflection: "This project underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in responding to community crises. Seeing the real impact of Amazon's donation on our facilities and those benefiting from them reaffirmed the significance of documenting and sharing these moments of generosity and community spirit. It was a potent reminder that every act of kindness, particularly in times of crisis, can have profound effects that reverberate through our communities."
